GOOD&CO | Q + A WITH LILLIE TOOGOOD

We chat with the brains behind the creative and luxurious brand Good&Co, Lillie Toogood. Lillie founded her brand in 2011 after gaining experience from working on digital textile printing at Australian fashion house Camilla and Marc. Lillie combines her love for travel and photography to create her unique and timeless designs that you’ll see throughout each collection. We go into depth about how the ‘Lucky Scarf’ came to be along with a quick style series to finish it all off.

Tell us how Good&Co came to be?

Good&Co came about after years of tinkering away on designing and making things to sell. While working for Camilla and Marc in Sydney, I was lucky to get hands-on experience with large format digital textile printing which was a whole new medium to me and eventually led to me being able to combine my love of photography, graphics and textiles.

Tell us about your process? Design inspo, printing and production.

The idea behind G&C is to be able to combine my love of travel with work, and use my photography as the source of designs for each season. Themes vary each collection, from exploring a single country like Vietnam, or tasting the flavours of the world as our AW20 collection is based around.

When it comes to the fabric of good and co’s scarves (insanely soft!), how did you choose it and where is it from?

Finding the right combination of good printers and good fabric has been one of the surprisingly challenging parts of the process, so we spent a long time making sure this was right before starting (and with each new composition introduction) as it's hard to reverse a poorly made product once it's out there. Our makers knew from the start what we were looking for and the quality of finished product so after initial teething problems normal in any manufacturing we're now all on the same page. Our lush wool/silk blend is the best thing to wrap up in over the cool nights (and the perfect travel piece)!

What inspires you (personally, but also in business)

Travel, photography, cities, people, open spaces, summer, architecture, music, textiles.

Where do your design / collection ideas come from?

Everything comes from my own photography, either while travelling or exploring my local areas (doing much more of that now... :)).

Tell us about the Saben x Good&Co pieces and how this design came to fruition?

This was such a fun project, I have always loved your tag-line, and am obsessed with neon lights and the graphic effects they create, so using your 'lucky' neon light as a textile graphic just seemed to be a no-brainer. It's timeless and unique to your brand, while also being iconic to the quirky scenes Good&Co is known for.
